Net neutrality in India

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) on Thursday issued their report on Net Neutrality in India. After a lot of protests and discussions against the Net Neutrality all over the internet, the result is in favor!

The Net Neutrality Committee said that the user rights on the Internet need to be ensured so that Telecom Service Providers/Internet Service Providers (TSPs/ISPs) do not restrict the ability of the user to send, receive, display, use, post any legal content, application or service on the Internet, or restrict any kind of lawful Internet activity or use. 
In Their report they said that net neutrality is very important for the good internet experience and also stressed in their report on inheriting  some core principals of net neutrality.
DoT will be working with the TRAI (telecom regulatory of India) for incorporating some of the important principles of net neutrality and safeguarding of net neutrality.
The DoT report consist of more than 100 pages and is the clear notification from the government on net neutrality.

The international best practices along with core principles of net neutrality will help in formulating India specific net neutrality approach. India should take a rational approach and initiate action in making an objective policy, specific to the needs of our country. The timing for this is apt, taking into consideration the exponential growth of content and applications on the internet," noted the report.

More significantly, it addresses the question of over the top (OTT) services like WhatsApp that telecom operators allege have an unfair advantage because they are not licenced. But the report says "specific OTT communication services dealing with messaging should not be interfered with through regulatory instruments."

This debate on net neutrality in India was started in April this year. Thousands of web users posted against this on social media to show their displeasure at this idea of going away from net neutrality.

How to get more from Google

Search engine is the backbone of the today's day to day internet use. But how many of you know that there are some tricks available which can help you people to improve your search.
Here are some tricks which you can use to save your time while surfing internet.

#1. Search Exact Phrase
"How to google"
If you want to search a exact phrase then you can enter the phrase with quotes this will tell google that you want to search entire phrase together. So this will help in saving time while searching something.

#2. Exclude a word
inception -movie
If you want to search a word which has one or more meaning, and you know which u want. Then you can add a dash infront of your query with the meaning you dont want. this will exclude the meaning of that word from the search result.
for example, i want to search a meaning of a word inception and it is not a movie name. So my query will be inception -movie

#3. Search within a site
tips site:shreeontechnology.blogspot.com
If you want to search something within a site, yo can do this without going on to the site. You just have to type the query you want to search and the site: word and the site name in which you want to search the query.
For example, i want to search tips in the site shreeontechnology.blogspot.com so my query is
Tips site:shreeontechnology.blogspot.com

#4. Search similar
If you want to search a similar site as the know site then use the keyword related.
i.e. related:name of the site.

#5. Search for words in text
allintext can be used to find a text in the pages. this query will give you all the pages where this text occures.
allintext:basic internet tricks

#6. Search the words in the title
allintitle is the keyword to be used when searching for a query in the title of the page.
For example, allintitle: Technology

#7. Search in the URL
allinurl keyword can be used when searching for a word or a phrase in the url of a site.
For example, allinurl: bbc news

#8. Search related to a particular location
If you want to find some news in a particular location you can use location tag i.e. narendra modi location: china

#9. Search for a particular filetype
you can search a particular document on the internet by just giving the file type of that document.
For example, annual report 2015 filetype: pdf

#10. Blank
You can use a * which works as a wildcard word in a phrase and help you to identify that word.
For example, There is a * that never goes *.

#11. Either word
You can use the tag OR where you wanr to find pages with one of several words, use a capitalized OR i.e. ipl 2013 OR 2015

Top 8 Basic Internet Tricks

Hello friends, I am back again with some tricks which help you out while using internet.As per the usage i have listed some of the problems which we face while using internet and studied this problems and tried to search for the easy solutions for this problems.
So here are some of the tricks.......

#1. No need of typing http:// in the address bar
Many time while writing a web address in the browser's address bar we tend to start with HTTP and it becomes wastage of time to type this HTTP with the backslash and all. So here is the solution for this the browser is design in such a way that we don't have to type HTTP in the address bar. Further, we also don't have to type WWW before the actual address starts. we just have to type the domain name of the website that's it. all the other things will be taken care by the browser. To make your job more simple you also don't have to type .com if its a .com site. just type the domain name and CTRL+ENTER and your job is done.

#2. How to open the accidentally closed tab.
While surfing the net we tend to open and close many tabs at a go, and in the process of doing this we accidentally close an important tab. No this is a problem, normally we will have to go to history and check for the site you opened and the open it again to get back that tab. This process is time-consuming. So here is a solution, Just enter this keys i.e.  CTRL+SHIFT+T. This command will open your last closed tab, also you can do this by right click on new tab in the browser and then selecting the option of reopen closed tab.

#3. Opening a link in a new tab
When we browse something on net we first type our keyword in the search box. After this we get a set of results i.e. in the form of links. Now we have to decide which of the link to follow so as to get the needed information. But in doing this we fail most of the time and every time we have to come back to the result page back and then select the other link. This becomes hectic sometimes, to over come this problem one of the solution is opening each link in a new tab, but for this we have to go to that link and right click and then select the option of open in a new tab. But other then doing this we can do one thing i.e. hold CTRL key and now click any link you want, that link will be opened in the new tab.   

#4. Searching an Image
Biggest problem we face is when we have to search with an image and if that image is online then this problems widens. Normally what we do is, we save that image on our hard disk and the try to upload or drag it on to search box and then search that image. But the easy way to do this is hold the S key and right click on that image. This command will search that image on the net. other way of doing this is just drag this image to the search box from wherever it is on the site. 

#5 Turing your browser to a Notepad
Many times we need to copy notes from the net and for that we have to go out of the browser and open a notepad or any other application to type the notes. But you can turn your browser to a Notepad do this task simpler. you can do this by just copy pasting below code in your address bar.

#6 Getting Raid of search history
Number of times when surfing the internet we dont want our history to be saved. So what we do is we just clear the history after we are done with our searching. But same thing we can do using Incognito mode on our browser. This mode does not save our history. You can enter in this mode by this command i.e. Hold CTRL+SHIFT+N key. 

#7. You can use your Google as....
you can use the google for many things other then using it for searching information, such as 
1. Calculator: You can just type what you want to calculate and google will give yo the answer for this. for e.g. 123*23.
2. Time-pass: You can use google for fun, man times we fill bore with the daily work so we can just have fun with google.

• Do a Barrel Roll: We can make google to do a barrel roll by just typing this keyword in the search box.keyword is "Do a Barrel Roll".
• Give google a retro look: We can customize google to look like it was looking in retro time. By searching this keyword I.e. " Google in 19**".
• Play a video game: You can play a video game with google images with this keyword “Atari Breakout”.

#8. Some of the Internet Browser shortcuts

• Alt + D: use this command to take your cursor to address bar.
• CTLR and press + or - : this will increase or decrease the font size.
• BACKSPACE: Will take you to back page.
• F5: to refresh a page.
• F11: to make your browser screen full screen. Press it again to get to normal.
•  CTRL+F: To get a search box on your browser.

How Internet works ??

The Internet

We use internet in our day to day life, we use social networking sites, we chat, we shop online, we exchange emails, we do online banking this are some examples of what we do by using internet. We will take a small example we chat using internet, have we ever thought of how many computers we use in this process?? the answer is no. We never think of such silly things, for most of the people the answer for this will be 2 computers i.e. one which is I am using to send a message and the other one is to receive the message. But the answer is no, in between this 2 computers there are dozens of computer bridging together to form a network. So collectively, the collection of this world's linked-up computers together is known as Internet. How they actually do this?? Let's take a closer look at that later.

If I ask some people to define Internet most of them will answer by naming the applications they use over internet for e.g. Google, Flipkart, facebook, and so on. But actually this is not internet, this is World Wide Web. An Internet is the underlying telecommunication network which make use of this application possible.

We can understand internet better if we assume it to be some system, this system consist of two main components the one is Hardware. This component consist of everything from cables which are used for transmission to the computer which we use. Still there are many hardware components in between this such as Routers, Switches, Servers, mobile towers, satellite, radios, smartphones and other connecting devices. All this components together forms a network and combination of this networks is known as Internet. In these networks, some of the components may act as an end points, computers, smartphone and other connecting devices which you use to read this are known as the end points or in other terms they are known as clients. Machines that store the data that we see on web are known as the Servers. Other hardware components are the nodes, which help in connecting the route of a traffic. In between this route it comes the transmission lines, it can be the physical i.e. cables or fiber optics, or it can be wireless i.e. using satellite or radio signals using mobile towers. 

The Second component of this system is Protocols, without this the hardware component would have failed to work. Protocols are the set of rules that should be used to complete some task. without this rules communication between two devices would fail, different machine would not understand each other without this Protocols.

There are many protocols that we use over the internet, One of them is HTTP. It stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol which is used to view web pages in browser. Next protocol is FTP, i.e. File Transfer Protocol which is used to transfer files over internet. There are many such protocols that are used to do some specific task over the internet. Some of the important protocols are TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol and IP i.e. Internet Protocol. Mostly we use them together i.e. TCP/IP.

We have heard of IP addresses, This addresses follows Internet Protocols. Each computer or any node which is connected to internet has this address. We presently use 32-bit address known as IPv4. But the problem we are facing is we are running out of addresses. So in future we will be using IPv6 i.e. address of 128 bits and that will be enough for the large demand.

When we send some message or if we want to retrieve some information from internet we make use of TCP/IP protocols. Your request is transferred over the network, which first goes to the DNS server. This server stores all the domain name and their Ip addresses to find the target server so that it can fetch the information that the user wants. Ones the target server is identified, the request is sent to that server and the response of that will be transmitted to the node which has requested the information. Internet is so flexible that it will take any connecting route to deliver the information.

Now we will take a look at how actually the data is transferred over the internet.

To retrieve an article, the computer had to connect to the server which was storing this article. We will now use this example to explain the flow of data over the internet.

First, you open your browser and type the domain name of the website you want to visit. Then This request is sent to ISP further Isp sends this request to the DNS server. DNS server then tries to match your Domain name to the domain names stored on that server. when DNS server finds the match it gives the IP address of the server where the data is stored. If suppose the DNS server fails to match the domain name then it sends it further for matching.

Finally, this request will come to the server where the data was stored. Now this server will respond by sending the requested data in the form of packets.  Each packet is of some size and has the data which is requested and also the header footer containing the information of what is there in the data andt the destination of that packet, it also has the information of how all the packets can be combined to form an entire file. Each packet then travels from the network to reach your computer, it may so happen that all the packets may come from different routes. They take the path which has the least traffic.

When the receiver receives the packets, it then try to connect this packets together to form an entire file. It may so happen that some of the packets may have been destroyed on the way, if this is the case then server again requests for that packet again. When entire file is compiled you see the result on your computer by opening the requested site for you. This is the way how data is moved over the internet.

This is how the Internet works for you in microseconds. If you take a deeper look at the various nodes, Components and different protocols that are used over the internet the picture becomes more complex for you.
